City Technology

Volunteer City Information Technology Director: 2009-2013

City Technology Overhaul

As the IT volunteer, I recognized the critical need to bring Langley’s technology into the 21st century. Taking charge, I initiated a comprehensive program aimed at updating the city’s outdated systems, which had not seen an overhaul in a decade. This endeavor was driven by a commitment to efficiency, accessibility, and transparency.

Modernizing the Network

Understanding the importance of a robust technological infrastructure, I spearheaded the upgrade of the city’s network to modern standards. This not only improved internal operations but also laid the foundation for a more connected and responsive municipal environment.

Enhanced Internet Services and WiFi Accessibility

Recognizing the increasing reliance on digital communication, I played a key role in the purchase and installation of upgraded Internet services. Additionally, I championed efforts to provide both public and private WiFi for City Hall, enhancing connectivity for residents and improving access to city services.

Digitizing the Langley Municipal Code

To ensure easy access to essential information, I initiated a digitization process for the Langley Municipal Code. This move not only streamlined accessibility but also marked a commitment to keeping our legal framework current and accessible to all.

Transparent Governance through Digital Recordings

Understanding the importance of transparency, I implemented and streamlined a process for recording city meetings. These recordings are made available on the city website, providing a valuable resource for residents to learn about the decisions and actions of the city. This initiative aimed to ensure that every member of our community has an opportunity to stay informed and engaged.

Continuing as a Consultant

In the decade since I was the IT Volunteer, I have made myself available to the city and staff for all of their technology needs. Consulting in system, networking, and Internet upgrades. I made myself available to assist during COVID to ensure that the city continued to operate even when few people were allowed on site, and ensured continuance of government.

My experience as the IT volunteer reflects my proactive approach to modernizing Langley’s technological landscape. This commitment to progress, efficiency, and transparency underlines my dedication to serving our community with the utmost diligence.
